Mayor Eddie Sundquist delivered his first State of the City Report to the Jamestown City Council and members of the public at the Jamestown City Council Chambers last night (January 27, 2020). In his speech, Mayor Sundquist outlined his vision for the future of Jamestown by highlighting the following priorities:
- Improving City Communications
- Creating new systems to allow government to operate more efficiently for citizens to increase citizen satisfaction and engagement
- Develop increased emergency communications to citizens
- Addressing Public Safety Concerns
- Re-engage with Police and Fire
- Provide much needed repairs for the Fire Department
- Ensure Jamestown has an ambulance service
- Developing our City
- Have crafted a strong partnership with the Small Business Development Center
- Create a Community Housing Authority to bring organizations working in the housing sphere together to coordinate a housing plan for the city
- For the first time in over 15 years, intends to call a Charter Review Commission to ensure Jamestown is competitive.
- Modernizing Our Tax Structure
- Seeking ways to lower the tax rate for developed and improved properties, to stop penalizing home owners for making repairs
